Labucq Spring Brunch
Labucq, designed and founded by Lauren Bucquet, formerly design director for Rag & Bone, launched its second official collection this weekend with a brunch catered by Highly Likely Cafe in her West Adams Showroom.
Bucquet’s spring offering, which will release piece by piece over the coming several weeks, is the brand’s first foray into the sandal category. “I was overwhelmed with the success of our launch this fall,” said Bucquet.
“We wanted to bridge the distance between New York fashion, which is my background, and the direct to consumer thing, which most people associate with tech-bros and a kind of anti-fashion stance. We had a great, exhilarating launch, and it quickly became apparent most of our support was coming from New York. When developing our spring styles, I spent a lot of time thinking about LA—not the city, or it’s imagery, but what women actually wore here and wanted to wear. I wanted to make the brand more accessible to the West Coast customer. This is after all my home.”
The result? Chunky, block heeled strap sandals, inspired by an iconic 90’s silhouette, in five colorways ranging from bubbly to sophisticated; simple, indestructible leather-soled slides, meant for throwing on without forethought—“we are calling them ‘front door shoes’, as they’re supposed to be convenient, welcoming, ready; something you keep at the front door and throw on”; and a puffy cross-strap pool slide meant for, “luxury convalescence.” Bucquet also previewed her first Italian-made handbag, a studded together structured mini-tote that will release in May.
The brunch, co-hosted by Martiza Lerman Yoes, turned the brand's cozy LA studio space into a colorful brunch wonderland full of exquisite floral arrangements by Renko Floral, food by the brands neighbor Highly Likely Cafe and collected vintage furniture and objects from Pop Up Home (also a West Adams establishment). Amongst those in attendance were Rachel Keller, star of the hit FX TV show, Legion, Netflix star Antonio Marziale (@tonimarz), Who What Wear editor-in-chief Kat Collings (@katcollings), and Instagram royalty Olivia Lopez (@olivialopez), Stephanie Liu Hjelmeseth (@honeynsilk), and Courtney Halverson (@prettylittlefawn).
